Theverge | DJIs $39 mic adapter for the Osmo Pocket is here to save your vlogs audio || AGUMA.ONLINE

DJI has finally released a 3.5mm microphone adapter for the Osmo Pocket, its handheld vlogging camera that was released back in December, reports Drone DJI. The $39 adapter plugs into the camera's USB Type-C port, and it will reportedly work with microphones from Rode, Audio-Technica, and Sennheiser.

The Osmo Pocket's internal microphone doesn't sound terrible, but in my time with the camera, it seems to be the weakest part of the device, especially when compared with the video footage produced by its three-axis stabilized camera. Sound quality might not matter when you're working with a rugged action camera like the GoPro Hero 7 that's designed for filming extreme sports, but DJI's camera is more at home while vlogging, a situation where audio is much more critical.

However, DJI's adapter might not be the only one you need. Although we think of all 3.5mm jacks as being the same, they actually differ depending on how many contacts they have at their ends. TS cables only have one (so they can do mono audio), TRS cables have two (for stereo), and TRRS cables have three (stereo plus a microphone). DJI's adapter only works with TRS jacks, so you'll need a TRRS to TRS adapter if your microphone has a TRRS jack, which is shown by having three black lines on the connector.

The DJI Osmo Pocket is available now from B&H Photo and the DJI Store for $39 (35).
